Your rights

You have the right to request access to your personal data and to receive information about how we process it. You may also request that inaccurate or incomplete data be corrected. Where the legal requirements are met, you may request deletion of your personal data or ask that processing be restricted (e.g., blocked), and you may object to certain processing. You may also request data portability where applicable.

If processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. In Switzerland, this is the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC/EDÖB).

Where applicable, you also have the right to request that an automated individual decision be reviewed by a natural person.

Server log files

This website is hosted by Wix.com Ltd. Wix acts as a service provider (processor) for hosting this website. In this context, technical data may be processed, in particular: the accessed page, date and time of access, data volume transferred, access status, browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, IP address, and the requesting provider.

This data is used to operate, secure, and optimise the website and to investigate misuse where necessary. Depending on the services used, data may also be processed in other countries (e.g., the United States and Ireland) where Wix and its sub-processors operate.

Legal basis

Processing is carried out for the purposes of operating and safeguarding the website in accordance with applicable Swiss data protection law (FADP/revFADP). Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests in operating and securing the website).

Cookies and consent

We use a consent management tool (Usercentrics for Wix) to manage cookies and similar technologies on this website. Essential cookies are required for the website to function and are set automatically. Non-essential cookies (for example, analytics or marketing cookies) are used only if you provide your consent.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the “cookie settings” option on the website.

Contact form

If you contact us using the contact form, we process the data you provide (first name, last name, email address, and the content of your message) solely to respond to your enquiry and, where applicable, to follow up on it. No other use takes place.

Legal basis
Processing is carried out in accordance with applicable Swiss data protection law (FADP/revFADP).
Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (handling enquiries and pre-contractual communication) and/or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to enquiries).

Recipients / service providers
Our website is hosted via Wix. Wix may process data on our behalf as a service provider (processor). In connection with donations, PayPal may also process personal data as an independent controller (see “PayPal donations”).

Retention
We store the data submitted via the contact form only as long as necessary to handle your enquiry and for any follow-up communication, and longer only if required by legal obligations or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

PayPal donations

If you choose to donate via the PayPal button on our website, you will be redirected to PayPal. PayPal processes personal data as an independent controller in order to process the donation/payment. Depending on the payment method and your PayPal settings, this may include in particular your IP address, device and browser information, and payment and transaction data (e.g., amount, date/time, payment status and transaction/reference identifiers), and, where applicable, account-related data such as your name, email address, and PayPal account details.
We receive from PayPal only the information necessary to reconcile the donation (e.g., payment status and transaction/reference details) and, where applicable, donor details if you actively provide them within PayPal.

Legal basis

Processing is carried out in accordance with applicable Swiss data protection law (FADP/revFADP) for the purpose of enabling and handling donations. Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis is generally Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (processing of the donation/payment) and/or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in offering a secure donation option).

Recipients / international data transfers
PayPal may process data in countries outside Switzerland and the EEA, depending on its corporate structure and service providers. For details, please refer to PayPal’s privacy notice.

Retention
We retain donation-related records only as long as necessary for the purposes described above and, where applicable, as required by statutory retention obligations (e.g., accounting).

Social media links

Our website contains links to external social networks (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn). When you click such a link, you will be redirected to the respective platform. Only then may data (such as your IP address) be transmitted to that provider. We have no influence on how these providers process data. For details, please refer to the privacy policies of the respective providers.

Data retention

We store personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this privacy policy (in particular to operate and secure the website and to respond to enquiries) and to comply with applicable legal obligations. Where retention is no longer required, we delete or anonymise the data.

Redes Fantasma

About us

Redes Fantasma is an international initiative addressing ghost nets and lost fishing gear through community-led fieldwork and practical technologies. Working with fishers, divers, researchers, NGOs, and coastal communities, and supported by strategic partners across science, civil society, and philanthropy, we develop and test solutions that prevent, detect, recover, and responsibly dispose of lost gear. Our lifecycle approach spans early intervention to long-term impact, with active field labs and networks in Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany.
